We thought we'd start a regular blog series to share the stories behind how each of our bestsellers came about. We are so passionate about the fact we are the designers behind all our products - we don't ship them in from 3rd parties - we are part of every stage of their creation. Not only does that mean we can be 100% confident in the ethical credentials and quality but it has given us the chance to source amazing UK suppliers in our chain. From our screen printer in Somerset to our woollen mill in Wales.
First up is the design journey of our 'Rainbow star blanket' - customers are often amazed to learn that we designed this fabric from scratch. Consumers these days are so used to mass-produced, off-the-peg designs that when we tell them the story behind how the rainbow star design came about they're blown away - so we thought we'd share it.
We have always loved our rainbow stripe but with our neon obsession we knew we wanted to do something that was still a classic background shade but with a pop of colour.
We did some initial designs and the 'stars and stripes' design emerged. Then it was a case of working with our mill in Wales on the creation of the hand-loomed, pure new wool fabric.
Believe it or not, this was a year long process (we've made babies in less time!). To get the perfect shades for the stripes, weave pattern and weight of blanket... there are so many variables with wool and the weaving process. It was a massive investment - and leap of faith - for us as a small, independent business, but creating something that is completely ours and using heritage UK manufacturing methods is something we are super proud of.
So that's the story behind all your blankets! We hope next time you curl up under them, or picnic on them you think of the love woven into each stripe!
