The days are getting longer and warmer, at last! What better way to while away a few hours getting back to nature making dens and having fun in the forest!
Britain used to be covered in forests, many moons ago, we still don't have to drive too many miles to get to one - even in London - but during the long, wet winter it's easier (and less muddy!) to go to a soft play centre. Apart from the odd April shower, it's a great time to get stuck in and get out!
Children love to be outdoors, learning through playing and doing; fresh air and sunlight, playing in and around water, getting dirty & muddy and plenty of it (sometimes naked!) Take away the modern distractions of TV, video games and iPads and children find a balance and synergy with nature.
Self-initiated and self-motivated play are one of the best ways for children to learn. Forest schools can facilitate this as well as help inspire confidence, social skills, communication, concentration and physical skills as well as knowledge and understanding. Soon the forest floors will be covered in bluebells, an amazing sight. Get stuck in and get out! Oh, and don't forget to take your hat. Incase there is still a little nip in the air!
